Wellbeing
We all want our children to thrive, and at Horizon Primary, we believe that children's wellbeing is the foundation for successful learning and a happy school experience. When children feel safe, happy, and able to manage their emotions, they are much better equipped to engage with their learning and reach their full potential.
Empowering Emotional Regulation with Zones of Regulation
We use the Zones of Regulation framework to help our pupils understand and talk about their emotions. This fantastic approach teaches children to categorise their feelings into four coloured zones:
-
Blue Zone: Feeling sad, tired, sick, or bored.
-
Green Zone: Feeling calm, happy, focused, and ready to learn.
-
Yellow Zone: Feeling frustrated, worried, excited, silly, or a bit out of control.
-
Red Zone: Feeling angry, terrified, overwhelmed, or out of control.
Every child at Horizon Primary has their own check-in chart where they can identify which zone they are in. This simple act helps them become more aware of their emotional state. Crucially, children also build their own "toolkit" of strategies to help them regulate their emotions and move back into the "Green Zone" when needed. These toolkits are personalized, filled with techniques and activities that work best for them individually, empowering them to take ownership of their emotional wellbeing.
Supporting Wellbeing with TGMC
We are a partner school with TGMC. TGMC provides our staff with up to the minute, research based training, lesson plans and resources to ensure that staff are well equipped to support children even when they may be finding things difficult. There is even a parent portal which Horizon families can sign up to to support their children’s wellbeing at home.

Our Pastoral Support
We understand that sometimes children need a little extra support. That's why our dedicated Pastoral Lead provides invaluable pastoral care to children who may be facing challenges. This support can range from one-to-one sessions to small group work, always with the aim of helping children navigate their difficulties, build confidence, and feel secure within our school community.
Where Every Child's Voice is Heard
At Horizon Primary, we firmly believe that children's voices are always heard. We dedicate time to ensuring every child feels confident enough to express themselves and that they feel a valued and integral part of our community. By fostering an environment where children feel listened to and understood, we strengthen their sense of belonging and promote overall wellbeing.
We are committed to nurturing not only our children's academic growth but also their emotional resilience and happiness, setting them up for success both in school and beyond.
