Helen Skelton – Year 2

Hello and welcome to our class page! We are Helen Skelton and on this page you will find work we are really proud of! We hope you enjoy looking at what we have been doing so far!

Our new theme for terms 3 and 4

In January we are going to start our new theme of "Super Swanley". We are going to be learning all about our local area. Over the Christmas holidays we would like you to complete the following activities on the document below.

Visit from the Mayor

Our Brilliant Beginning of our new theme "Super Swanley" was a visit from the Mayor of Swanley. We asked him loads of questions about Swanley and about being the Mayor himself. We also came up with some ideas on what Swanley needs and got his opinion on them.

Our Helen Skelton homework

Mr Jones asked us to find out some information on Helen Skelton, as our class is named after her. He was very impressed with what we brought in on the first day. Here is our new display!

Great Fire of London

Since September our theme has been the Great Fire of London. We have really enjoyed it and have learnt so much!

Our classroom:

We turned our book corner into a fire! We love coming to read in here and we love that our work is displayed on the walls as well. We made Tudor houses and completed some art work as well.

Trip to the local bakery:

The Great Fire of London started in a bakery. We took a trip to the local bakery in Swanley and discussed how different a bakery would have been in 1666.

Bread making:

We also got the chance to make our own bread. We pretended to be Thomas Farynor, who was the baker who left his oven on and started the fire in 1666.

Trip to London to St Paul's Cathedral and the Museum of London:

We also got the chance to go to London on a school trip to see St Paul's Cathedral, which was a building that was burnt down during the fire. Our tour guide took us around the famous building and let us see everything.

We then walked to the Museum of London to take part in a workshop all about the Great Fire. We had a lot of fun!
