Future Prepared - Scouting in schools

Friday afternoons means Scouting!!!!

Alongside raising academic standards, Horizon Primary Academy are committed to helping schools ensure that all children develop a set of character traits, attributes and behaviours that underpin success in school, work and future life such as:

  • Perseverance, resilience and grit
  • Confidence and optimism
  • Motivation, drive and ambition
  • Neighbourliness and community spirit
  • Tolerance, and respect
  • Honesty, integrity and dignity
  • Conscientiousness, curiosity and focus

In September 2015, Horizon Primary Academy was lucky enough to become involved with a DFE funded pilot, called Character by doing. Its aim was to provide character education in schools through scouting. Since then we have become our own scouting pack '4th Swanley Horizon', with 160 invested Beaver and Cub Scouts.

Children have the opportunity to get involved with community action projects,  earn badges and awards and take part in adventurous activities. 'Learning by doing' is at the heart of the Scouting Method, so you will often find our Beavers and Cubs outside, getting their hands dirty! All of our cubs have the opportunity to go in a residential camping trip, fully funded by the school.

Over the course of the year, Beavers and Cubs will be getting involved in  activities like:

  • Road Safety
  • DIY Clock Making and Key Racks
  • Fire Lighting and Outdoor cookery
  • Emergency Aid
  • Fire Safety
  • Archery
  • Circus Skills
  • Making afternoon tea for the community

and lots more!!!!!
